Don’t use clouds to kill men by Nazım Hikmet

Image

mothers make men of men
light our days, lead our way
were you not born of a mother?
you sirs who don’t spare the women
don’t use clouds to kill men

there sprints a boy of six
whose kite soars over trees
you too once ran like this
you sirs who don’t spare the kids
don’t use clouds to kill men

brides brush their hair in the mirror
seeking someone there in the glass
they’ve sought your face too, for sure
you sirs who don’t spare the spouses
don’t use clouds to kill men

when old, only memories sweet
of your life, should be by your side
shame on those who don’t spare the old
sirs, they are you, you are them
don’t use clouds to kill men
